Q Cup 2009
FRIDAY 29TH and SATURDAY 30th MAY 2009 - TELFORD
On Friday 29th May at Telford 60 highly eager competitors arrived in glorious sunshine to win the Q Cup for 2009. Proudly the Captains from Forest Pines brought along the trophy they won in 2008 at their home course. After a warm welcome from General Manager Darryl Holdnall the event was underway. Out on the course for the Beat the Pro Challenge was George Boden who set a new record for the most defeats in one day! The format for the day was pairs and some great score of 45 points were presented at the end of tough play in gorgeous weather.
In the evening a private dinner took place where the updated scores were read out revealing the following positions after day 1:
1st Place – Telford with 285 points
2nd Place – Westerwood 265 points
3rd Place – Aldwark Manor 258 points
4th Place – Forest Pines 253 points
5th Place – Hellidon Lakes – 237 points
After what was clearly a late night some delicate looking players arrived for the competition from 8.00am. The format was Individual and whether this contributed to the lower scores (35 points being the highest) or whether it was an over indulgence the night before one can only guess. What was evident was that the Telford players were in sparkling form but with Aldwark Manor regularly beating the Professional from Forest Pines (Dan Greenwood). This meant there was a late surge by Aldwark.
At the presentation by Andrew Cook, Group Golf Manager a number of individual prizes were awarded:
Ladies Longest drive to Jean Walker from Forest Pines who won a weekend break at Aldwark Manor.
Men’s Longest drive to Scott Guffogg from Westerwood who won a weekend break at Telford.
Nearest The Pin to Caroline Sands from Telford who won a weekend break at Forest Pines.
Nearest the Pin on Saturday - Bianca Gregory from Telford who won a weekend break at The Westerwood.
For the Best individual score on the Saturday Clare Charlwood from Aldwark Manor, with a score of 35 points, won a weekend break at Hellidon Lakes.
The main overall Team prizes were awarded:
5th Place – The team of Hellidon with 583 points.
4th Place – The defending Champions of Forest Pines with 593 points.
3rd Place – The team of Westerwood with 597 points.
2nd Place – Great for their first entry in to a Q event the team of Aldwark Manor with 634 points.
1st PLACE and CHAMPIONS 2009 were the team of Telford with a magnificent 668 points.
Forest Pines Captain Paul Robinson presented the trophy to the Winning Captain of Telford Trevor Allsop who thanked everyone for what he felt was a fantastic fun event. Following the prize giving Andrew Cook announced that next year’s event would be held at Hellidon Lakes and with everyone leaving in high spirits we look forward to a similar response next year.
